Police nab absconding accused in Lko
LUCKNOW, May 8 -- Mahanagar Police arrested Pawan Kumar Barnwal (27), a badminton coach, in connection with a case involving the alleged rape and abetment to suicide of his 24-year-old girl friend.
"The arrest was made on Tuesday evening near Uttarayani Mela Ground, in front of Khatu Shyam Temple in the Mahanagar area of Lucknow since the man was at large after the incident on April 30," said Manisha Singh, additional deputy commissioner of police, central.
According to the police, the man was roaming around in the city lodging in different hotels on different days to escape from the police. According to a police press note, Barnwal, a resident of Sidhauli in Sitapur, and currently residing in Bhikhapur Paper Mill Road, Mahanagar, was in regular contact with the victim. "On April 30, he allegedly called the woman to his rented room. Later, he called the victim's cousin to the same location. When she arrived, she found the woman lying lifeless in the room after which the cousin immediately informed the victim's family, who then contacted the police via emergency services (Dial 112)," the press note read.
"Based on the written complaint of the victim's father, an FIR was lodged at Mahanagar Police Station on May 1, initially under sections 64(1)(rape) , 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act," said the ADCP. htc...
