LUCKNOW, May 7 -- In a major move to decongest city roads and streamline traffic, the Lucknow Traffic Police has launched a fresh crackdown on unauthorised and illegally operating heavy public transport vehicles. This initiative follows a recent operation against e-rickshaws and forms part of a broader campaign to enforce road safety and traffic discipline. The special enforcement drive began on Saturday and continued into Monday and Tuesday, with police personnel deployed at key intersections and traffic-prone zones across the city. Over Saturday and Monday, authorities seized over 50 vehicles that were either operating without valid permits or violating provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. According to additional deputy commissioner of police (traffic), Ashok Kumar, the drive is part of a long-term plan to improve urban mobility and reduce the number of unauthorised vehicles that contribute to traffic chaos. On Monday alone, the police seized 17 vehicles, which included five buses, seven SUVs, two cars, one van, and two Auto Vikrams. Officials from the traffic department have confirmed that these drives will continue in the coming weeks, with more areas to be covered in a phased manner. htc...
