Police inspector caught red-handed taking bribe
Jhansi, July 11 -- A police inspector was caught red-handed by the anti-corruption department here on Thursday while accepting a bribe of Rs15,000.
Inspector Vineet Kumar who is posted in Mauranipur police station, around eighty kilometres from the district headquarters, had demanded Rs 40,000 from the complainant in connection with adding sections to an FIR concerning an altercation between two persons..
As per the anti-corruption team leader Thakur Das, they had received a complaint from one Abhishek Yadav of village Mailoni in which he had mentioned that on June 28 a fight broke out between his father Jwala Prasad and one Brijkishore. During the fight Jwala had sustained injuries, including a fracture in his leg.
Both the parties had lodged a case against each other for which Vineet Kumar was nominated as the investigating officer (IO).
During investigation, Abhishek demanded severe punishment for the opponent to which Vineet allegedly said that certain sections had to be added in the FIR and demanded Rs 40000 as bribe.
After negotiation, it was decided to hand over Rs 15,000 in advance and rest after the work.
Abhishek later on approached the anti-corruption department and lodged a complaint. On Thursday, a trap was laid to catch Vineet.
The victim called the inspector at the Ambedkar crossing in Mauranipur and the moment the money was given to Vineet by the victim, the team members rushed to the place and caught the police inspector red-handed along with the pre-marked currency notes in the presence of a couple of independent witnesses nominated by the district magistrate.
The team brought Vineet to Jhansi and lodged a case against him under related sections of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 at Premnagar police station. Vineet will be taken to Lucknow where he will be produced in front of a special court on Friday....
