AGRA, Sept. 26 -- A police constable from Saiyyan police station in Agra, who had resumed duty just five days earlier after being previously sent to the police lines, was arrested and sent to jail along with two others for abducting a man and making ransom calls demanding his release. The ransom attempt was foiled, leading to the arrest and sent to jail. A kidnapping-for-ransom complaint was registered against unidentified people at New Agra Police station under Agra Police Commissionerate on Wednesday by Kushal Singh. He alleged that his 18-year-old brother, Harshvardhan Singh, went to the market on September 22 but never returned, and his phone was unreachable when attempts were made to contact him. Subsequently, a ransom call demanding Rs 5 lakh was received from an unknown caller, who threatened that Harshvardhan Singh would be sent to jail if the money was not paid. The matter was reported to the police, and assistant commissioner of police Akshay Mahadik set a trap. All three accused were arrested when they arrived to collect the ransom in exchange for releasing the abducted man. Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Sonam Kumar stated that one of the three arrested, Monu Talan (30), is a police constable posted at Saiyyan police station. A resident of Aligarh, Monu had a criminal history and had been previously sent to the police lines. He had resumed duty at Saiyyan police station just five days ago, went missing until his arrest, and has now been sent to jail, the DCP added.
