Police bust gang distracting car owners to steal valuables
LUCKNOW, Oct. 1 -- An inter-state gang of five from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry was arrested in Lucknow on Monday for allegedly stealing valuables from parked cars, police said. The gang reportedly lured car owners' attention by dropping currency notes near their vehicles and, in the distraction, stole cash, laptops, and other belongings.
A joint team of Qaiserbagh police and the Western Zone surveillance unit identified the accused as Ranganatham C, 51, Satyaraj T, 39, Logu alias Lingraman, 42, Abdul Hasan, 41, and Elangeshwaran, 47.
Police said the gang worked in coordination: one dropped notes to distract, another engaged the car owner, a third removed valuables, a fourth broke windows if needed, and a fifth misled bystanders.
The arrest followed a September 25 complaint from a Shalimar Garden resident whose laptop, documents, and cash were stolen.
Police recovered a Dell laptop, diaries, Aadhaar cards, and about Rs 5,000 in cash.
They have now been booked under stricter sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and produced in court for judicial custody. htc...
