Meerut, Aug. 24 -- In a major crackdown, Saharanpur police on Saturday exposed a large fake currency racket and arrested three men from a railway quarter. The police recovered counterfeit notes worth Rs 2.59 lakh along with equipment and material used for printing fake currency. SP City Vyom Bindal said the racket had been operational for the past four months. Earlier, two men identified as Vansh and Rubal, residents of Gurudwara Road, had been arrested, which led to the exposure of the entire gang. Acting on their inputs, a joint operation by the surveillance team, SWAT unit, and local police was launched, resulting in the arrest of Shashi Kumar alias Sarvesh (Kanpur), Naveen Paswan (Gorakhpur) and Karanveer (Yamunanagar). During interrogation, the accused revealed that they procured security paper from foreign websites and used laptops and printers to produce fake Rs 500 notes. These notes were then sold on social media platforms such as Instagram, where customers were lured with the promise of receiving double the amount. The gang reportedly sold fake Rs 500 notes at prices ranging between Rs 250 and Rs 800, earning substantial profits. Police recovered bundles of counterfeit Rs 500 notes, six mobile phones, two laptops, a printer, photo cutter, security thread paper, chargers, a bike and other equipment from the accused.
