Police begin campaign against illegal alcohol
Dehradun, May 17 -- Haridwar police has started a campaign against illegal country-made liquor manufacturing units in forests using drones, following a hooch tragedy in Amritsar.
Senior superintendent of police Haridwar Pramendra Dobhal said, "from time to time, we act against illegal country-made liquor manufacturing units in forests and use drones during our operation. This time we have started with Pathri police station area which has dismantled makeshift distilleries set up near drains in forest areas near Dinarpur and Dera villages on Thursday. We also destroyed 1000 litres of lahan. This campaign will continue."Acting on the inputs, the police dismantled the makeshift furnaces (bhattis) set up near drains in forest areas near Dinarpur and Dera villages under Pathri police station. The police used modern technology, including drones, to conduct aerial surveillance and search suspected locations in forest areas. During the operation, approximately 1,000 litres of lahan (fermented mixture of ingredients used to produce illicit country liquor) were also destroyed. Even as Uttarakhand has been rocked by four hooch tragedies since 2019 in which 59 people lost their lives, illegal country-made liquor makers continue to make liquor in the forest areas of Kumaon and Garhwal regions.
