PM releases Rs.62 cr in crop insurance
Dehradun, Nov. 10 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi released crop insurance claims worth Rs.62.84 crore to 28,344 farmers on the occasion of Uttarakhand's 25th Foundation Day celebrations here on Sunday.
Agriculture Minister Ganesh Joshi said the Prime Minister's visit to the state reflects his "special affinity and sensitivity" towards Uttarakhand and its farmers.
The disbursal was made in collaboration with the Agriculture Insurance Company (AIC) under the Rabi 2024-25 season through the DigiClaim module of the Government of India portal.
The minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the Centre and state governments are consistently working for the welfare of farmers and towards achieving the goal of doubling their income.
"This insurance payout is evidence of the government's commitment to the farming community," Joshi said.
He added that since 2016, a total of Rs.1,146.43 crore has been distributed to 625,161 farmers under the restructured Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme. The scheme aims to provide financial security to farmers affected by adverse weather conditions and natural calamities.
During the silver jubilee celebrations, PM also released a special postal stamp series issued by the Uttarakhand Postal Circle.
Officials aware of the matter said the stamp series features the state's prominent pilgrimage sites and cultural symbols, capturing the essence of its religious, cultural, and natural heritage. Officials said the series seeks to give a new national identity to Devbhoomi Uttarakhand, known for its spiritual significance and natural beauty....
