PM Modi praises UP's Gaj Mitra initiative in Mann ki baat
LUCKNOW, April 27 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday mentioned the 'Gaj Mitra' initiative by the UP forest department during his monthly radio address, 'Mann Ki Baat'. The programme highlighted the innovative initiative aimed at curbing human-wildlife conflict in the state's Terai regions.
Reacting to the mention, chief minister Yogi Adityanath wrote on X : "The appreciation expressed today by our honorable Prime Minister, Shri @narendramodi, through the @mannkibaat program-highlighting innovative initiatives like 'Gaj Mitra' aimed at curbing human-wildlife conflict in the Terai regions of Uttar Pradesh-serves as a moment of inspiration for the people of the state,".
He added that the initiative presents a positive image of the 'New Uttar Pradesh of New India,' where rural communities have become guardians, "not only protecting wildlife but also strengthening a culture of harmonious living and coexistence". The reduction in human-wildlife conflict is continuously reinforcing a sense of security and trust among people.
Principal chief conservator of forest (wildlife) UP, Anuradha Vemuri, explained the programme's function: "Under the initiative forest staff along with Gaj Mitras warn people in advance of elephant movement and thereby prevent conflict and incidents."
Yogi concluded by stating that the "Double Engine Government' remains fully committed to establishing an excellent balance between nature conservation, animal welfare, and public safety." The PM mentioned Greater Flamingo in Gujarat, the initiative in UP (referred to as Hathi Mitra/Gaj Mitra in the thread), Black Buck in Chhattisgarh, and the Great Indian Bustard in Rajasthan-Gujarat....
