Pledged gold jewellery worth Rs.43 lakh stolen
LUCKNOW, July 9 -- As many as six current and former employees of a major finance company's Vikas Nagar branch here have been booked for allegedly replacing genuine gold ornaments kept as collateral by customers with fake gold. The total value of the missing gold was estimated at Rs.43 lakh.
According to the FIR registered on July 5, the scam came to light when Amit Kumar Pathak from Gorakhpur, a customer, who came to the branch to get his pledged gold released claimed that his valuables had been replaced with fake ornaments.
The company's area head, Shubham Dey, filed the police complaint on behalf of Manappuram Finance Ltd. "Following the customer's complaint, an internal audit was conducted between January 12 and 19, which revealed that gold from four packets belonging to customers Amit Kumar, Rahul Nanda, and Vivek had been fraudulently replaced. The total weight of the missing gold is 786.7 grams," said the complainant in the FIR.
Those named in the FIR include former branch head Anurag Singh, former assistant branch head Satish Singh, junior staff member Aman Singh, current branch head Pankaj Vishwade and assistant head Somnath Yadav. Among the charges invoked are those related to the criminal breach of trust, forgery, and criminal conspiracy....
