Lucknow, Oct. 6 -- Vilayet Jafri, the man who is said to have introduced 'light and sound' shows in India, breathed his last on Monday morning, said his daughter Chandni Jafri on phone from Mumbai.

A reputed playwright, poet and short story writer, he wrote 10 books, scripted 11 plays, created 21 light and sound productions, made TV shows like Neem Ka Ped, Tamas and Bharat Ek khoj. A well-known name in the literary, theatre and entertainment sector in India, he was much loved in Lucknow because of his stint with the city in Doordarshan. He is survived by his wife Krishna, son Umber, daughters Chandni ,Hina and Rashmi Tandon.
