Plays put women centric issues in the spotlight
Lucknow, Nov. 28 -- Two plays 'Dar' and 'Peepal Ka Ped' were staged under the direction of theatre artist Anil Mishra 'Guruji' at Rai Umanath Bali auditorium on Thursday.
Based on sensitive stories rooted in folk life, both performances brought women-centric issues to the fore.
In Rajat Rani 'Meenu's' story 'Dar', the struggle-filled journey of a Dalit woman was portrayed. She works in multiple households to provide her son with a good education and a better life.
The son secures a job and starts his own family, yet his mother's lifelong struggle continues to echo within him. His attempts to bring his mother to live with him fail, and ultimately, the mother's death becomes an emotional turning point in the narrative.
In the second story, 'Peepal Ka Ped', based on a story by Urmila Shireesh revolved around a sensitive diary written by a husband for his wife. While struggling between life and death in a hospital, the husband records his concerns for his family, financial pressures, and his deep devotion to his wife and children.
After his death, the revelation that he has left six acres of land for his wife-along with a request that their child should never come to know about it adds emotional depth to the story.
The key roles were performed by Kuldeep Vishnu Pandey, Anamika Singh, Archana Jain, Satyendra and Shashank Pandey....
