VARANASI, May 31 -- Union tourism secretary V Vidyavathi on Friday instructed the officials to start efforts from a tourism point of view to develop Varanasi as a world-class tourist destination. Changes from a tourism point of view should be visible in Kashi in the next two months so that international and domestic tourists can have a different experience, said Vidyavathi. Vidyavathi was chairing a meeting convened here with an objective to develop Varanasi as a world class tourist destination. Divisional commissioner S Rajalingam and several senior officials attended the meeting. The tourism secretary said that Kashi is not just a city, but a global cultural centre which encompasses ancient history, religious importance, and artistic traditions. The tourism point of view should be kept in improvement (in Infra and facilities) at major tourist spots in Kashi. The changes should be visible in Kashi in the next two months so that international and domestic tourists can have different experiences. She said that change should start from the basic level in order that proper changes can be visible in Kashi in the next two months. Initially, development from tourism point of view should be done at 16 to 20 major places, including major temples, connectivity points, ghats, and Sarnath etc. Whatever changes to be made should be sustainable as well as long-term which can promote local economic development while preserving cultural, religious and historical importance, she added. al Corporation were directed to run continuous campaigns to organise unnecessary hoardings, paintings, flex and cable wires spread across the city so that the city can be made beautiful in appearance. Instructions were given to install signage at appropriate places so that tourists can get the right information.
