Pilibhit ADM put on waiting list after row over VHP leader's arrest
Lucknow, Nov. 13 -- The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday put additional district magistrate (ADM), Pilibhit, Ritu Punia on the waiting list following a row over the arrest of a Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader.
In her place, Prasoon Dewivedi has been appointed as ADM, Pilibhit.
Punia lodged an FIR against VHP's organisation secretary Prince Gaur at the Pilibhit Nagar Kotwali police station on November 6 under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 132 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of duty), 336 (forgery), 338 (forgery of valuable security, will), 340 (using forged document or electronic record as genuine), 308 (extortion) and 351 (criminal intimidation), according to a report.
Police arrested Gaur on Saturday, but he was later admitted to hospital the same night after his health deteriorated in jail, officials said. According to officials, Punia had earlier written to the VHP district president regarding a complaint that was later claimed to have been made on a forged letterhead.
The district president, in his reply dated November 4, termed the letter "fake" and said no such authorisation had been given to anyone in the organisation.
Later, VHP Braj region's organising secretary, Rajesh met DM Gyanendra Singh, senior superintendent of police Abhishek Yadav and other senior officials, alleging that the case was "baseless and fabricated".
