Lucknow, Aug. 18 -- The Union ministry of health and family welfare has appointed Dr Radha Krishan Dhiman, who's serving as the director of Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) in Lucknow, as the new president of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Patna. He will also serve as a member of AIIMS Patna's Institute Body. He will continue to remain the SGPGIMS director. Dr Dhiman, a gastroenterologist, is a medical graduate from King George's Medical College here. He completed his MBBS in 1984 and MD in 1987. He earned his DM in Gastroenterology from SGPGIMS in 1991. Among his many achievements, Dr Dhiman played a pivotal role in developing a cost-effective public health model for hepatitis C treatment in Punjab, which led to the nationwide rollout of the National Viral Hepatitis Control Program (NVHCP) in 2018 under the National Health Mission. Dr. Dhiman was conferred the Padma Shri in 2024 by President Droupadi Murmu.
