PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 7 -- A man accused of robbing Rs.25,000 from a petrol pump in Katrauli area of Fatanpur in Pratapgarh district, by assaulting the staff, was injured and nabbed during a police encounter late Friday night. According to police, the exchange of fire involved the Fatanpur Police, a special task force, and the accused. The suspect suffered a gunshot injury to his leg during retaliatory firing. He was first taken to the Raniganj Trauma Centre and later referred to the medical college for advanced treatment, they added.. The incident occurred on the night of September 2, when four men on two motorcycles arrived at a petrol pump owned by Vivek Jaiswal in Katrauli, located in the Fatanpur police station area. The assailants attacked two staff members and two customers before looting Rs.25,000 in cash and escaping towards Baharia in Prayagraj.During the investigation, police examined CCTV footage from the escape route and identified two suspects. Around 9 pm on Friday, while searching for the accused, Fatanpur station house officer Rajendra Tripathi, along with special team members Mahesh Singh, Anand Yadav, Virat Singh, and Kunwar, attempted to intercept a suspect riding a motorcycle near Narayanpur Kala. The suspect opened fire on the police, prompting them to retaliate. He was injured in the exchange and was taken into custody. A country-made pistol was recovered from him, the SHO shared. During interrogation, the suspect was identified as Ravi Pasi alias Abhishek, son of Hariom alias Kallu, a resident of Dhumanganj area in Prayagraj.
