MEERUT, Nov. 8 -- A court in Sambhal district on Friday dismissed a revision petition challenging Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi's alleged statement that the Congress was 'fighting the Indian State'. Additional district judge (MP-MLA court) Aarti Faujdar rejected the plea filed by Simran Gupta, president of the Hindu Shakti Dal. Earlier, the court had reserved its judgment on October 28 following arguments from both sides. The controversy stemmed from Rahul Gandhi's reported remarks in January this year, where he stated, "We are not fighting the BJP and the RSS but the Indian State itself." The comment drew sharp criticism from BJP leaders, who labelled it "anti-national" and accused Gandhi of undermining national unity. Simran Gupta's petition argued that the statement could have a destabilising impact on the country, prompting her to seek legal action. This was a revision petition after an earlier application by her was rejected by another ADJ court. Rahul Gandhi's lawyer Sagheer Saifi confirmed that the district court held seven hearings before dismissing the case. "The petition has been rejected," Saifi said. The lawyer representing Simran Gupta hinted that a decision on appealing the judgment would be made after obtaining a certified copy of the order. htc...
