Lucknow, Dec. 28 -- The German Shepherd, whose prolonged illness was cited as the trigger behind the alleged suicide of two sisters in Lucknow's Para area on Wednesday, died late on Friday night. The dog had been suffering from a serious stomach ailment for over a month and was under treatment, family members said. Despite medication and veterinary care, his condition failed to improve. According to the family members, the dog died nearly three days after the two sisters, aged 22 and 24, consumed phenyl at their home and succumbed. Police said the sisters shared an intense emotional bond with the dog, which they had raised since it was a month old. The pet had been part of the household for nearly nine years. Police said the sisters had slipped into depression as the dog's health deteriorated. Before losing consciousness after consuming phenyl on December 24, they reportedly told their mother not to abandon the dog and to ensure his treatment even after their death. The incident came to light when the sisters returned home from a nearby shop and informed their mother that they had ingested phenyl. Family members and neighbours rushed them to Rani Laxmi Bai Hospital. While one sister died on the way, the other succumbed during treatment. Inspector Suresh Singh of Para police station said post-mortem examinations were conducted and the bodies were handed over to the family. "The samples have been preserved. Further action will be taken after the forensic report and based on statements recorded from the family."...
