Lucknow, Oct. 2 -- On the occasion of International Day of Older Persons (Grandparents), the Social Welfare Department organised a programme on Wednesday at Bhagidari Bhawan in Gomti Nagar, under the auspices of HelpAge India and the Senior Citizens' General Assembly, Uttar Pradesh. This year's theme was "AdvantAge60: Powering Aspirations - Active, Capable, and Empowered," which aimed to challenge the stereotypical notions associated with aging and convey the message that even after the age of sixty, life is a powerful phase of active participation, contribution, and satisfaction. The state head of HelpAge India, Anoop Pant, presented the outline, while deputy director, Social Welfare Department, RP Singh provided information about schemes for the elderly. The chief guest at the programme, Minister of State for Social Welfare (Independent Charge), Asim Arun, said that the government is committed to the welfare of the elderly. "Eligible senior citizens will now automatically receive old-age pension benefits. They will no longer have to visit any office or face the hassle of filling out forms," said MoS Asim Arun.
