VARANASI, Nov. 30 -- A contingent of 363 Agniveers swore an oath to serve the nation during a passing-out parade held at the 39 Gorkha Training Centre in Varanasi on Saturday. Brig Jaideep Chanda, Commandant of the centre, reviewed the parade, said Colonel Shailesh Kumar, director of recruiting, army recruitment office, Varanasi. Col Kumar said that after 31 weeks of basic and advanced combat training, the Agniveers have transformed from young aspirants into disciplined soldiers. The Gorkha Training Centre focuses on developing capability and shaping youth into resilient, mentally sharp, and battle-ready troops, who are then assigned to operational units deployed along active field sectors to protect the nation's borders, he added. The parade was witnessed by a large gathering of parents of the Agniveers, veterans, NCC cadets, and students from various schools in Varanasi. The display of military drill captivated the spectators with its precision and coordination, Col Kumar said. As the squads presented arms at the saluting dais, the crowd responded with loud applause. The confident marching of the soldiers, their pride evident on their faces, brought tears of joy to many parents. For outstanding performance during training, the Agniveers were awarded medals in various categories.
