ParL committee reviewsacademics at BHU
VARANASI, July 3 -- The Parliamentary Standing Committee on education, women, children, youth, and sports, headed by Rajya Sabha MP and Congress leader Digvijay Singh, held a meeting at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) on Tuesday.
Acting vice-chancellor prof Sanjay Kumar made a presentation on BHU's achievements, especially in the field of research and infrastructure development.
The committee members sought information on various academic and infrastructure-related issues and emphasised that research should not remain confined to fellowships but must be brought on the ground.
It is learnt that the committee also discussed the delay in the appointment of a regular vice-chancellor at Banaras Hindu University, as well as the impact of the absence of an executive council for over three years on key administrative and developmental functions.
Following the meeting, the chairman and members visited the CDC Bhawan, IIT-BHU's student activity centre and the precision engineering hub, and reviewed ongoing innovations and initiatives.
At the Atal Incubation Centre of CDC Bhawan, Digvijay Singh reviewed the work related to the development of startups, innovation and promotion of entrepreneurship.
Later, the committee visited IIT-BHU, where they were welcomed by director prof Amit Patra, who briefed the members on the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP), highlighting the launch of new academic programmes, growth in research culture, advanced R&D activities, and improvements in student placements....
