Paramilitary, ATS deployed at Kainchi Dham for the first time
Dehradun, June 15 -- Amid heavy influx of pilgrims at the Kainchi Dham in Nainital district on the occasion of annual foundation day fair, the Uttarakhand police has deploy for the first time the paramilitary force, and anti terrorist squad (ATS) to manage large crowds and ensure their safety.
Inspector general of police Kumaon Riddhim Agarwal, "It is for the first time that we have deployed SSB (Sashastra Seema Bal) and anti terrorism squad (ATS) at the Kainchi Dham."
She added, "A Public Announcement (PA) system has been set up at the Kaichi Dham fair to guide devotees, disseminate important information, and facilitate emergency communication. High-resolution CCTV cameras and drone surveillance have also been deployed across the entire fair premises. Real-time monitoring is being carried out from the control room."
She said to manage crowds, they have also deployed police from three districts.
Agarwal further said that a total of three companies of PAC and over 800 police personnel have been be deployed for the fair.
Additional director general of police (ADG) law and order V Murugesan said, "This year, the security arrangements are even more robust than last year. Our focus will be on three key areas... traffic management, crowd movement, and overall security arrangements. We have discussed all these aspects in detail."
Murugesan said, "....proper arrangements should be ensured by holding a coordination meeting with the temple committee and organizers for the safety of the devotees. Entry and exit to the temple should be managed according to the estimated number of devotees. The assistance of volunteers should be taken to manage the crowds."
He asked senior officials to establish a duty control room and deploy capable officers in it.
"There should be a 24x7 real-time monitoring system with the help of CCTV and drones," he said.
Murugesan also asked the police's social media monitoring cell to remain active and fact check the posts on social media and take legal action against those spreading rumours.
He said the entire fair area should be divided into zones and sectors to ensure a well-planned deployment of security forces.
He added, "All policemen should be briefed on time. Both male and female cops should be deployed in plain clothes in the crowd."
The ADG said suspicious objects should be scanned by bomb disposal squad (BDS).
He said a route diversion plan should be prepared and publicized through social media and other means for the coviennce of public.
Murugesan said the systematic operation of shuttle service should also be ensured during the fairs.
"At parking places, adequate force should be deployed," he said.
" Entry and exit gates should be marked separately at the temple, parking and other places....entry should be allowed by assessing the number of visitors. And flex boards related to important information like route plan, parking arrangements, distribution of prasad etc. should be installed at important places," he said.
