Paper leak: Protesters say govt must organise retest
Dehradun, Oct. 2 -- Uttarakhand Berozgar Sangh (union) has said that even though they have suspended their protest after Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami's announcement of CBI probe, but they will re-launch their agitation if their demand for re-exam of Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission (UKSSSC) graduate-level graduate-level exam isn't fulfilled.
After CM's announcement of CBI probe, the protesters led by Uttarakhand Berozgar Sangh on September 29 put on hold their protest at Dehradun's Parade Ground.
Ram Kandwal, president of the Sangh, said, "We decided to defer our protest for now after the CM's announcement. They (the government) have decided to fulfil our two demands, including a CBI probe and cancellation of FIRs against protestors. Our demand for re-exam hasn't been met. The CM told us that further action on this will be taken on the basis of SIT recommendations. But if our demand isn't met within a time limit, we will relaunch our agitation."
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday announced that his government will recommend a CBI probe into the alleged UKSSSC paper leak case.
He made the announcement while addressing the government job aspirants at the Parade Ground in Dehradun where they had been protesting against the paper leak since September 22, demanding a CBI probe into the matter and re-exam of the graduate level exam held on September 21.
Addressing the protestors, Dhami said, "You all want the case to be investigated by the CBI, so I am announcing here before you that there should not be any doubt or mistrust in your mind. We will recommend a CBI inquiry into this matter."
"I do not want even a single question mark on any recruitment process. Do not keep doubts. I am with you," he added.
In the wake of the alleged graduate-level exam paper leak, the Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission (UKSSSC) has decided to plug loopholes in mobile jammer coverage at exam centres.
It came to light during the probe that there was no mobile jammer coverage at the classroom of the exam centre in Haridwar's Bahadurpur Jat, where accused Khalid appeared for the graduate level exam on September 21.
This allowed him to photograph pages of the question paper using a mobile phone and sent them to mobile phone, in possession of his sister Sabia, who subsequently transmitted them to Suman, an assistant professor in Tehri Garhwal. The solved answers were sent back to Khalid.
GS Martolia, UKSSSC chairman, said, "In the board meeting today, we discussed all aspects related to maintaining the integrity of the exams and strengthening our process. We decided to plug loopholes in mobile jammer coverage at exam centres. The jammers will cover the entire exam centre, including bathrooms, leaving no room for malpractice."
He added that the commission will conduct its upcoming recruitment exams for more than 5,000 government posts on schedule, its chairman said and added that exams for various positions in government departments scheduled till June 2026 will be held on time.
"Right now, there is an exam on October 5, then another on October 12, and then the physical efficiency test for foresters on October 28. There is a series of exams like this. By June 2026, recruitment exams for approximately 5,000 to 5,500 posts are scheduled," he said.
Martolia stated that there are a total of 10,000 to 12,000 posts, of which examinations for approximately 4,500 to 5,000 posts have already been conducted, and the final results will be released soon after document verification and physical examination....
