Pantnagar: Raze structures for proposed global airport, says DM
Rudrapur, May 18 -- The district magistrate (DM) of Udham Singh Nagar has directed all departments concerned to immediately demolish buildings that fall within the designated area for the proposed international airport in Pantnagar. To be sure, currently Pantnagar has a domestic airport.
The state government has already transferred 524 acres of land to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the project.
While addressing officials during a review meeting, DM Nitin Bhadoria said, "All structures that are obstructing the development of the proposed international airport in Pantnagar must be demolished without delay. Offices, including police stations, hospitals, schools, and colleges need to be relocated promptly so that construction work can begin. A team from Delhi will visit to assess the site."
The central government has approved the setting up of an international airport in Pantnagar. Currently, Pantnagar airport has a 1,572-metre runway, which accommodates smaller aircraft such as the ATR-72. Once upgraded, the airport will be capable of handling larger international aircraft, which require a minimum runway length of 3,000 metres.
Air India, IndiGo, and FlyBig are among the carriers currently operating flights from Pantnagar.
