panel to probe sigachi blast, says T'gana; toll now 40: Factory
Hyderabad, July 3 -- The Telangana state government on Wednesday constituted an expert committee to investigate Monday's explosion that occurred in Sigachi Industries Ltd at Pashamylaram in Sangareddy district, claiming 38 lives and leaving 34 others injured.
The committee would be headed by CSIR-IICT chairman and emeritus scientist Dr B Venkateswar Rao, the government order issued on Wednesday stated, adding that the other members will be chief scientist from IICT Dr T Prathap Kumar, retired scientist from central leather research institute Dr Surya Narayana and safety officer of National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) Dr Santosh Ghuge.
The committee was asked to submit a detailed report to the government with specific suggestions and recommendations, within one month.
"The committee shall examine the management, staff and workers of the company, interact with various consultants, organizations and individuals during its enquiry and submit a detailed report within one month to the government," the order said.
A statement issued by the management of Sigachi Industries, however, said the toll in the mishap stood at 40 with 33 injured, and announced payment of Rs.1 crore to the families of each of the victims towards ex-gratia compensation....
