Panel formed to probe into ethanol factory
Jaipur, Dec. 18 -- The state government on Wednesday formed a five-member committee to probe into the pollution allegations against the ethanol factory in Hanumangarh's Tibbi, while the farmers intensified the protest declaring to continue it till the factory's closure in the area, officials said.
According to an official statement by the chief minister's office (CMO), "In view of several complaints against the ethanol factory located at Hanumangarh's Tibbi, the Forest, Environment, and Climate Change Department has formed a five-member committee to probe the possible groundwater and soil pollution caused by the factory's effluent."
"The committee will submit their detailed report to the Rajasthan government as soon as possible," read the statement.
The move comes on the same day when the farmers called for a mahapanchayat at Tibbi on Wednesday at the collectorate premises in protest of the violent clash that erupted between the protesters and the police last week.
The next day, an FIR was lodged against 107 of the protesters and 40 including another Congress MLA Rupinder Kooner were arrested.
"In today's mahapanchayat, we have decided to continue our protest till the government closes the factory permanently which has been polluting our agricultural lands for the last 15 months," said the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) in a statement....
