Panel for protection of small cats in forest formed
LUCKNOW, March 15 -- Uttar Pradesh has constituted an 18-member State Project Steering Committee aimed at improved conservation of small cats and leopards. The state has also formed a 15-member Landscape Level Advisory Committee to implement the GEF-7 project.
"The government of India has identified nine small cat species for conservation, of which four are found within the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve: including Fishing Cat (Prionaiurus viverrinus), Leopard Cat (Prionailurus bengalensis), Jungle Cat (Felis chaus) and Rusty-Spotted Cat (Prionaiurus rubiginosus)," said Anuradha Vemuri, principal chief conservator of forests (wildlife), Uttar Pradesh.htc...
