LUCKNOW, May 19 -- After a long 42 years of uninterrupted journey, Uttar Pradesh Handball Association (UPHA)'s general secretary Anandeshwar Pandey on Sunday decided to take a break from the post due to his busy schedule and named Varanasi's Amit Pandey as working secretary at the UPHA's annual general meeting here. Even now, a former treasurer of the Indian Olympic Association, Pandey will continue responsibilities as general secretary of South Asian Handball Federation, executive director of Handball Association India (HAI) and general secretary of Uttar Pradesh Olympic Association. "Now, I will focus on taking handball to new heights in the country and accelerating the Olympic Movement in Uttar Pradesh. I will also continue to discharge my duty as secretary general of UPHA," said Pandey while addressing the meeting. The meeting also approved other appointments as now Paramendra Singh of Ayodhya will be the organising secretary and chairman of the referee board. Apart from this, Hanuman Pratap Singh of Ambedkar Nagar, Sumant Kumar Pandey of Lucknow, Baijnath Singh of Sonbhadra and Sudhir Singh and Mahendra Singh Rajput of Aligarh have been made joint secretaries. Uttar Pradesh Hockey at its annual general meeting on Sunday awarded Rs 21,000 to each of its sub-junior boys' team members, who won the national title this year. UPH's secretary general RP Singh on the occasion advised all its district units to conduct hockey leagues in all the eight categories on regular basis. Singh also informed the meeting in the last three years, UP Hockey did well in the senior, junior and sub-junior categories. This year, three players of UP women's hockey made it to the Indian hockey team. He also announced that the district unit, which organises the best hockey league in the state, will be awarded. The UPH will ensure the availability of hockey sticks to all needy players across the state. The meeting also nominated Abhijeet Sarkar as senior vice president in the sporting body....
