Lucknow, Nov. 20 -- Uttar Pradesh marked World Toilet Day on Tuesday with a state-level event here, where top-performing districts and village panchayats were felicitated for their achievements in rural sanitation. Panchayati raj minister Om Prakash Rajbhar, principal secretary Anil Kumar Singh and director Amit Kumar Singh were among those present. Panchayats were awarded for excellence in community toilet management, behaviour-change initiatives and plastic-waste disposal. Street plays were staged to spread the message of cleanliness. Rajbhar said World Toilet Day symbolised the state's commitment to rural dignity and hygiene. Meanwhile, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) marked World Toilet Day on Wednesday by launching a citywide cleanliness drive, inaugurating multiple newly built public toilets, and honouring sanitation workers across several zones.
