Panchayat polls: State government begins delimitation of wards
LUCKNOW, July 16 -- The Uttar Pradesh government has initiated the process of delimiting wards in rural areas impacted by urban expansion. The move comes ahead of the 2026 general panchayat elections.
As per the government order (GO) issued by principal secretary, panchayati raj, Anil Kumar here on Tuesday, the delimitation exercise aims to reorganise affected village panchayats and development blocks in line with changes to urban ward structures caused by shifts in area and population.
According to the detailed timeline given in the government order, July 18 to 22 has been set for verification of population data in affected panchayats, July 23 to 28 for publishing draft list of restructured wards, July 29 to August 2 for inviting objections, August 3 to 5 for resolution of objections, and August 6 to 10 for publishing the final list of restructured wards.
Officials have been directed to publicise each stage and strictly adhere to delimitation guidelines issued under earlier government orders from 2014 to 2015.
The final ward list must reach the directorate of panchayati raj by July 16 (Wednesday), in both digital and physical formats, they added.
District magistrates and other officials have been asked to ensure the process is completed accurately and on time....
