Pacer Naman stars in Noids Kings' last-over victory
LUCKNOW, Aug. 19 -- A four-wicket haul by young pacer Naman Tewari and some fine batting performance by Prashant Veer and skipper Karn Sharma helped Noida Kings notch up a thrilling two-wicket win over local outfits Lucknow Falcons in the third match of the UPTwenty20 League here on Monday.
Former India Under-19 pacer at the Youth World Cup, and left-arm pacer Tiwari was right on target, bagging 4/28 with one maiden as Lucknow Falcons could make 165/8 while batting first after winning the toss on the home turf.
Later, Noida Kings even after losing two wickets in Bhuvneshwar Kumar's last over, romped home with one ball to spare, losing eight wickets. Jasmer Dhankar struck the winning boundary off Kishan Singh, who conceded 29 runs in 11 deliveries and remained wicketless.
In fact, Noida Kings got off to a flying start as openers Shivam Chaudhary and Anivesh Chaudhary added 56 runs in just 5.1 overs. But the two departed in the same over by leg spinner Vipraj Nigam.
Shivam struck 16-ball 26 with the help of three boundaries and a six, whereas Anivesh made 23-ball 33 with the help of three boundaries and two sixes.
The wickets kept tumbling even then as Aditya Sharma (0), Ravi Singh (9) and Priyanshu Pandey (1) departed in quick succession as Noida Kings were reduced to 98/5 in 11.3 overs. But thereafter, a 47-run sixth wicket partnership between Karn Sharma (33, 20b, 2x4, 3x6) and Prashant Veer brought the side back into the game.
Still the thrill was there as Karn departed after being caught by Kritagya singh off Akshat Pandey, and thereafter Mohammad Sharim (2) and Yuvraj (1) too lost their wickets. But Prashant (48*, 41b, 3x4, 2x6) along with Dhankhar pushed the side home with one ball to spare.
Earlier, former UP Ranji Trophy skipper Priyam Garg struck four boundaries and six sixes in his 42-ball 73 to help Lucknow Falcons post a challenging total. Sameer Chaudhary (24, 11b, 2x4, 2x6) and Vipraj Nigam (21, 27b, 2x4) were the other main run getters.
Naman kept teasing Lucknow Falcons batters with his speed and accuracy on the solid turf of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. He was well supported by Kunal tyagi, Karn Sharma and Sharim, who shared three wickets between them.
Winning team's skipper Sameer Chaudhary was excited with a winning start for the side
"It's a good start to teams' campaign in the new seasion as we had just two wins in the last season. I am sure that boys will continue to do well in further matches too," he told broadcaster.
