Overbridge project: Kesari Kheda railwaycrossing likely to be shut for six months
LUCKNOW, July 12 -- Krishna Nagar-Kesari Kheda railway crossing is likely to be closed for six months for the final phase of a long-delayed overbridge project as the Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation is ready to resume work.
With no official traffic diversion plan announced yet, concerns are mounting over commuter inconvenience and increased congestion on alternative routes.
Thousands of daily commuters from Krishna Nagar, Para, Alambagh and Ashiana areas pass through this crossing.
Although 80% of the 973.56-metre-long, two-lane bridge has been completed since construction began in February 2024, its progress was delayed due to a land acquisition dispute.
A private house had been built in the path of the bridge between pillar points 12 and 15, bringing construction to a halt.
A senior public works department official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed that without clearing the land, work could not move forward.
Demolition work on the structure is now nearly over, paving the way for full-scale construction to resume.
In anticipation of the railway crossing shutdown, the Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation has sent a formal request to the DCP (traffic), seeking urgent suggestions for rerouting traffic.
Officials said without proper traffic management, the closure could lead to severe bottlenecks, particularly affecting school zones, markets, and daily office commutes....
