PRAYAGRAJ, Feb. 26 -- More than half of the trainees of the 2024 batch have failed in the first semester of the Diploma in Elementary Education (DElEd) examination. The results, released on Wednesday by the office of the Prayagraj-headquartered Examination Regulatory Authority, UP show that out of 1,84,576 registered trainees, 1,01,279 (57%) failed, while only 78,125 (43%) managed to pass. Additionally, 3,525 trainees were absent, 1,334 results are incomplete, 309 results have been withheld, and four trainees were caught using unfair means, informed officials. The DElEd, formerly known as the basic training certificate (BTC), is a two-year diploma for candidates seeking to teach in primary and upper primary schools. For the 2023 batch, the third-semester results indicate that out of 1,44,493 registered trainees, 1,42,973 appeared for the exam, with 1,10,264 (77%) passing. Meanwhile, 32,548 failed, 1,520 were absent, 100 results remained incomplete, 58 results were withheld, and three trainees were caught cheating. In the first semester of the 2023 batch, 56,546 trainees were registered, 55,262 appeared, and 34,521 (62%) passed, while 20,723 failed and 1,284 were absent. For the 2022 batch, in the third semester, 16,494 trainees were registered, 15,682 appeared, and 10,184 (65%) passed, while 5,429 failed and 812 were absent. In the first semester, 8,851 trainees were registered, 7,837 appeared, and 4,814 (61%) passed, with 2,986 failing and 1,014 absent. In the 2021 batch, the third-semester results show that 3,600 out of 6,041 trainees (61%) passed, while 2,321 failed. The first semester of the same batch had only 470 trainees (39%) passing out of 1,347. The examinations for all batches were conducted in October and November, 2025.
