PRAYAGRAJ, July 24 -- Around 85% of lawyers cast their votes on Wednesday in the election to choose 28 office-bearers of the Allahabad High Court Bar Association (HCBA). According to chief returning officer Radha Kant Ojha, polling began at 9am and continued till 5pm in the parking area of the newly constructed chamber building. Lawyers turned up in court uniforms and with identity cards issued by the HCBA to exercise their franchise. This year, 9,718 voters were eligible, and 201 candidates contested various posts. As many as 8,337 lawyers exercised their franchise. To maintain order, the election committee barred setting up of tents within a 500-metre radius of the high court. The area was also declared a no-parking zone, with route diversions in place. CRPF and civil police personnel were deployed at each booth to ensure peaceful polling. Counting of votes will begin on July 25 in the HCBA library hall, the returning officers said....
