Pithoragarh, Oct. 26 -- Over 700 athletes, including 100 volunteers from across the country, have registered for the first-ever Adi Kailash Parikrama Run -- Ultra Marathon -- that is scheduled to be held on November 2 in the high-altitude Adi Kailash region, situated at around 14,000 feet, officials aware of the matter said. District Tourist Officer (DTO) Kriti Aryan said, "All preparations for the event have been completed, including lodging and boarding facilities for guest athletes. We have also started issuing inner-line permits for participants from today for the marathon." According to officials, the competition will feature four categories: the 60 km Ultra Marathon from Jolunglong to Kalapani and back to Gunji, a 42 km Marathon from Gunji to Kuti and back, a 21 km Half Marathon, and 10 km and 5 km races for participating atheletes. "The Ultra Marathon will start from the 14,000-feet-high Adi Kailash region of Jolunglong and pass through Kalapani and Gunji-making it one of the highest-elevation marathons ever in the state," Aryan added. District Magistrate Ashish Bhatgai visited the region on October 23 to review preparations.
