Lucknow, Dec. 31 -- More than 7,300 married women have applied for transfer of their food security units from parental ration cards to their husbands' ration cards in Uttar Pradesh, since the facility was introduced in May this year. Officials made this disclosure in a review meeting of the department of food and civil supplies by minister of state Satish Chandra Sharma here on Tuesday. "Officials informed that 7,316 applications for unit transfer of married women have been received and are under process," said the minister. Sharma directed officials to speed up the transfers, underlining that women should not lose National Food Security Act (NFSA) benefits due to marriage or relocation. The new system allows a woman to get her unit transferred directly from her parental ration card to her husband's ration card. There is no need to first delete her name from the parental card and then apply afresh for inclusion in the in-laws' card. The meeting also reviewed paddy procurement preparedness and implementation of NFSA across the state. Officials said 92.09% of beneficiaries' e-KYC has been completed so far. Action was taken against 229 fair price shop dealers in November 2025 for distribution irregularities, including FIRs, licence suspensions and cancellations. Progress on Annapurna Bhawan construction, funded under a Rs 200-crore provision, and free LPG refill delivery under the Ujjwala scheme was also reviewed, though officials said unit transfer of married women remains a priority area....
