Over 4,000 trucks stranded due to server failure at transit gates
Rudrapur, Jan. 10 -- More than 4,000 trucks and dumpers remained stranded in the Gaula river area of Nainital district on Thursday after a server malfunction disrupted the issuance of e-transit passes, officials said on Friday.
The Uttarakhand Van Vikas Nigam (UVVN) issues electronic transit permits, locally known as e-ravannas, for the legal transportation of river bed material (RBM) such as sand, gravel and stones, after collecting royalty from vehicle operators. Due to the server problem at the transit gates, the Nigam was unable to issue these permits, leaving thousands of vehicles stuck inside the river area.
Dhiraj Bisht, divisional logging manager, UVVN, said the server issue occurred on Thursday but was resolved by Friday. "The server is functioning normally now and the vehicles that were stuck in the river area on Thursday have exited," he said.
The Nigam uses the geology and mining department's server to issue e-ravannas. Bisht said authorities had been requested to ensure smoother server services as the mineral extraction season is currently underway.
Officials said around 5,000 trucks and dumpers are engaged daily in transporting RBM from the Gaula river, which has 11 transit gates, including Lalkuan, Halduchaur and Shantipuri. Transporting material without e-ravannas is treated as illegal and attracts penalties.
