LUCKNOW, June 26 -- Over 350 shuttlers in a different age categories will be seen in action in the four-day Ranbahadur Singh Memorial District Badminton Championship, beginning Thursday, at the Uttar Pradesh Badminton Academy here. District Badminton Association's secretary, Anil Dhyani informed that on the first day only, all the matches of under-11, 13, 15 and 17 boys and girls will be played, whereas the remaining three days will witness singles and doubles matches of men and women sections. Dhyani also informed that as many as 20 shuttlers will be honoured on the final day of the event on June 29. The first UP State Ranking Table Tennis will be played from June 27 to 29 at Varshney College Indoor Stadium in Aligarh. Secretary of the Aligarh District Table Tennis Association, Sarvesh Kumar states that over 400 participants, including girls from all over the state are expected to take part in the tournament. He also said that paddlers like Sarth Mishra, Anika Gupta, Ronak Singh, Avani Tripathi, Aryan Kumar, Shreya Agarwal, Keshav Khandelwal, Anokhi Keshari, Lakshya Kumar, Ankisha Mishra, Durvaank and Anshika Gupta have been top billings in different categories. A six-wicket haul by left-arm spinner Pawan Singh helped favourites Akhil Infra Cricket Club (AICC) notch up a fascinating 73-run win over Kooh Sports Cricket Club (KSCC) in a league match of the Timber Trophy here on Wednesday. Singh took 6/14 as KSCC collapsed for 114 in 15.3 overs while chasing 187 in 20 overs. K Raj Singh (31), Fahad (25) and Aditya P Singh 924) could touch the double figure mark for KSCC. Abhishek Yadav and Ajet Verma shared two wickets between them for winner. Earlier, AICC with the help of a fine knock of 90-run in 41 balls with the help of 10 boundaries and three sixes by Saif, posted 187/4 while batting first after winning the toss. Harshjeet (47) and Amit Chopra (31*) were the other main run getters. In another match of the day, Life Care Cricket Club defeated LDA Coaching Centre by 14 runs. Opener Sumit Sharma, who was later named man of the match, struck 23-ball 40 with the help of six boundaries and two sixes as LCCC scored 140/8 after being sent to bat first.
