Dehradun, Feb. 18 -- Uttarakhand high court has disclosed that more than 250 complaints were filed against judicial officers and judges in the state subordinate judiciary over the past five years. The data, covering January 1, 2020, to April 15, 2025, shows 258 complaints were recorded, with disciplinary proceedings initiated in four cases. This transparency step, prompted by a Right to Information (RTI) application from Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Sanjeev Chaturvedi, marks Uttarakhand as one of the first high courts to release such figures publicly, amid refusals by others including those in Chhattisgarh, Delhi, and Chennai. The disclosure underscores growing demands for accountability in judicial administration. The information emerged following a directive from the Uttarakhand State Information Commission (SIC). Responding to Chaturvedi's RTI application filed on May 14, 2025, the High Court's state public information officer (SPIO), via its Vigilance Cell, provided the specifics. "This is a very welcome step from High Court of Uttarakhand, for bringing transparency and accountability in administration of justice. Its significance lies in the fact that whereas many other high courts like Chhattisgarh, Delhi and Chennai have declined to share such information, Uttarakhand High Court has probably become one of the first high courts of country to share such information", said Chaturvedi's counsel, Sudarshan Goel. In January 2026, the SIC directed the High Court's public information officer (PIO) to furnish data on complaints and disciplinary actions against subordinate judiciary members. Chief information commissioner Radha Raturi passed the order while hearing Chaturvedi's second appeal. Chaturvedi, posted in the state forest department, had sought certified copies of service rules and disciplinary procedures, details of competent authorities for corruption complaints, the total number of complaints against subordinate judges, along with cases where disciplinary or criminal action was recommended, and file notings on his RTI processing....
