Prayagraj, Aug. 11 -- As floodwaters swept through low-lying areas of Prayagraj, hundreds of animals were left stranded-many without food, shelter, or any means of escape. Over just eight days, teams of volunteers braved harsh conditions to feed more than 6,000 animals and rescue over 200 dogs, puppies, and cattle from drowning or starvation. Sadly, more than 25 animals were found too late, having perished before help could arrive, said Vanshika Gupta of Raksha NGO, who played a key role in the rescue operations. The rescuers waded through waist-deep water, navigating dangerous debris, snake-infested zones and the constant risk of disease. For hours each day, they worked in the most flood-affected areas, refusing to leave until every visible animal was accounted for, she added. Support from local municipal officials-including Arvind Rai and Dr Vijay Amrit Raj from Prayagraj Nagar Nigam-the SDRF team, boat operators, and supervisor Sunil Nishad was crucial in reaching isolated areas and transporting animals to safety, Vanshika noted. "In disasters like these, it's often the animals who suffer in silence. Their survival depends entirely on timely intervention and the bravery of those willing to risk everything to rescue them," she added....
