Over 20.8 million saplings planted, 100.12% of set target achieved
PRAYAGRAJ, July 10 -- In a remarkable display of environmental commitment, the Prayagraj division on Wednesday achieved a major feat in Uttar Pradesh's mega plantation drive, planting more than 20.8 million saplings in a single day- surpassing the set target and marking a significant milestone in the state's green mission.
Under the theme ""One Tree in Mother's Name- 2.0," the plantation campaign covered all four districts of the division - Prayagraj, Fatehpur, Pratapgarh, and Kaushambi - with a collective performance that reached 100.12% of the assigned goal.
According to principal chief conservator of forests, South Zone, Manoj Kumar Sonkar, the total target was over 20.77 million saplings, but by 5.20pm on July 9, more than 20.8 million saplings had already been planted.
Among the districts, Prayagraj took the lead, with over 7.8 million saplings planted in just one day, achieving 100.29% of its target. Fatehpur followed with 512,295 saplings, Pratapgarh with 534,500, and Kaushambi planted 251,470 saplings. The drive saw participation from not just the forest department, but all government departments in the region, said officials.
In a major highlight, the division also saw the creation of 71 special forests, including 22 in Prayagraj district alone - designed to enhance biodiversity and contribute to long-term ecological balance.
As part of the large-scale plantation campaign in Prayagraj, the key event took place at Shaheed Chandra Shekhar Azad Park. Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Nand Gopal Gupta 'Nandi' paid tribute at the statue of Shaheed Azad before planting a Harishankari sapling, joined by District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandar, PCCF Manoj Kumar Sonkar, and DFO Arvind Kumar Yadav. The minister urged citizens to support the "One Tree in Mother's Name" campaign, highlighting its vision to become a mass movement, much like the rural sanitation drive led by the Prime Minister....
