Prayagraj, Nov. 25 -- A total of 17,539 consumers in Prayagraj have accumulated outstanding electricity bills amounting to over Rs.69 crore, and among all seven divisions of the city, the Tagore Town division tops the list of defaulters, with 4,466 consumers collectively owing Rs.24.42 crore as of Monday, revealed the data from the electricity department. According to the list of defaulters prepared by the electricity department, the Bamrauli division follows Tagore Town, with 4,259 defaulter consumers and total outstanding dues of Rs.17.71 crore. The Naini division stands third, with 2,867 defaulters owing Rs.7.48 crore. Further, as per the list, 2,076 consumers in the Mayo Hall division have outstanding dues of Rs.8.71 crore, followed by the Rambagh division, where 1,907 consumers owe the corporation Rs.5.23 crore. In the Kareli division, 1,195 consumers have dues amounting to Rs.3.63 crore, while 769 consumers in the Karelabagh division have unpaid bills totaling Rs.1.92 crore. To help consumers clear their outstanding dues in easy installments, the power corporation is set to launch a scheme from December 1 onwards, under which all 17,535 consumers with unpaid bills will receive special discounts upon payment of their dues. Under the scheme, consumers will receive rebates on both the principal and interest amounts, along with the option to pay their bills in installments.
