Orange alert issued for rain, hail; temp likely to drop starting today
LUCKNOW, March 19 -- Relief from rising day and night temperatures is expected in Uttar Pradesh (UP) as the met department has predicted thunderstorms, lightning and hail in several districts starting Thursday. The weatherman said this change in weather is due to an approaching western disturbance.
Considering the likelihood of a new spell of rainfall commencing on March 18-reaching peak intensity on March 20 and continuing until March 21-the maximum temperatures across the state are expected to decline rapidly by 5 to 7 degrees Celsius between March 19 and 21, followed by a gradual rise of 3 to 5 degrees Celsius thereafter.
This weather pattern is influenced by favorable cyclonic circulations in the lower troposphere over Eastern Uttar Pradesh and surrounding areas, as well as the impact of westerly winds associated with an upcoming active western disturbance, said Met officials. The potential interaction between the prevailing easterly winds in the lower troposphere and the westerly winds in the mid-troposphere has led to the issuance of an 'Orange Alert' for the period of March 19-21.
In western UP, a possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning/thunder squalls (with wind speeds ranging from 40-50 km/h, gusting up to 60 km/h) and isolated hailstorms is predicted. While in eastern UP, a possibility of lightning/thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds (wind speeds increasing from 40-50 km/h to gusts of 60 km/h) and isolated hailstorms....
