Meerut, Dec. 26 -- An incident of murder and suicide was reported from the Baraut Kotwali area of Baghpat district, where a 21-year-old woman was shot dead by a 22-year-old man allegedly obsessed with her in a one-sided love affair. The accused later died by suicide by hanging himself. The incident took place in Bawli village on Thursday. According to police, the victim, identified as Tina, was on her way to buy vegetables from a nearby shop when she was shot by Satnam, a resident of the same neighborhood. Satnam was reportedly in love with Tina, but the feelings were not reciprocated. Ajay Pal Singh, a resident of Bawli village, informed the police that Satnam had been pursuing Tina for some time. On Thursday at around 12 pm, Satnam allegedly confronted her and fired at her, killing her on the spot. After committing the crime, Satnam returned to his house carrying the country-made pistol and later took his own life by hanging himself from a tree. On receiving information, the police rushed to the spot and took both bodies into custody. Necessary legal formalities were initiated, and the bodies were sent for post-mortem examination. Superintendent of police Suraj Kumar Rai said that preliminary investigation suggests the case is linked to a love affair. "The man shot the woman dead and later committed suicide by hanging himself. Investigations are on," he said....
