One in custody for beating Dalit boy in Deoria, hunt on for 2 others
GORAKHPUR, Aug. 15 -- Deoria police on Thursday took one Anil Mishra, 26, into custody in connection with an August 4 incident in which a 16-year-old Dalit boy was assaulted allegedly by a group of upper caste men. A video of the incident went viral on social media on August 8.
The victim, identified as Raju Prasad, of ward no. 4 in Deoria's Majhauli village, was allegedly attacked near a liquor shop in Majhol Raj town under Salempur police station when the group of upper caste men reportedly stopped him from taking liquor, police said.
Salempur circle officer Deepak Shukla said an initial inquiry confirmed the date of the incident. Taking cognizance of the viral video, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, following a complaint by the victim's mother Sunita Devi on August 10.
Police named three accused Anil Mishra, 26, Sidharth Mishra, 33 and Brijesh Singh in the case. While Mishra has been taken into custody, efforts are on to apprehend the remaining accused....
