Haldwani, Feb. 17 -- An Om-shaped glass bridge is being constructed at Kainchi Dham in Bhowali of Nainital district, as part of a plan to develop the shrine into a model religious tourism centre with modern infrastructure, officials said. The bridge is likely to be opened to devotees by June, ahead of the ashram's foundation day on June 15, they added. Nainital district magistrate Lalit Mohan Rayal said the project is being executed under the Centre-backed Manaskhand Mandir Mala Mission, with the Public Works Department (PWD) overseeing construction. "Named the "Om Bridge", the glass structure will be 36 metres long and 2 metres wide. It is being built using modern engineering techniques and high-strength safety glass capable of withstanding heavy loads and shocks," Rayal said. He added that the bridge's Om-shaped design has been conceptualised to ensure structural balance and durability while enhancing its visual appeal. The structure will offer panoramic views of the Shipra river and the surrounding valley. Dedicated photography and selfie points are also being incorporated for visitors. According to officials, construction of the right abutment has been completed, while fabrication work on the left side is underway. "We aim to complete the project in June so that devotees can experience the bridge during the foundation day celebrations," the DM said. Rayal said the shrine is being developed under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme at a cost of Rs.1,759.50 lakh. The project includes construction of modern public amenities such as toilets, drinking water facilities, first aid centres, a yoga and meditation centre, and improved road infrastructure. To ease frequent traffic congestion in the area, a four-storey parking facility is also being constructed at a cost of Rs.4,081.39 lakh. The complex will include ramps, elevators, CCTV surveillance, lighting systems, fire safety mechanisms and proper ventilation. Officials said around 45% of the parking project has been completed....
