Olympian Savita Pal dies at 22
LUCKNOW, May 9 -- Young Olympian athlete Savita Pal of Prayagraj died at a private hospital in Rohtak, Haryana, early Thursday morning. She was only 22 years old.
According to information, Savita had gone to Rohtak for regular training, where she met with a road accident last Saturday. She was discharged from the hospital after initial treatment, but on Tuesday, she was re-admitted due to sudden severe pain.
Subsequently, surgery was performed by the doctors, after which her condition deteriorated, and she breathed her last early Thursday morning. The last rites of Savita, a resident of Jhunsi in Prayagraj, will be performed by her family at the Sangam coast.
Savita represented India at the Tokyo Olympics, where she recorded a time of 31 minutes 25 seconds in the 10,000m race.
Although she missed out on winning a medal, she had many notable performances at the national and international levels.
She brought laurels to the country by winning the gold medal in the 10,000m race at the Senior National Federation Cup (2019) held in Patiala....
