Oil tanker hits school bus, 5 students injured in Pratapgarh
PRAYAGRAJ, Feb. 4 -- An oil tanker rammed into a school bus from behind, injuring five students, in Pratapgrah district on Tuesday afternoon. The incident took place near Khajuri on the Lucknow-Varanasi highway under the Lalganj police station area while the bus was dropping children at their homes, police said.
According to reports, the school bus of Saraswati Vidya Mandir Inter College was carrying around 35 students and had stopped near Khajuri to let children get down. At around 3 pm, an oil tanker coming from the Pratapgarh side lost control and hit the bus from the rear. Due to the impact, the bus veered off the road and slid into a roadside ditch. However, it narrowly escaped overturning.
Local residents rushed to the spot and helped evacuate the children from the bus. Five students were injured in the accident. They were identified as Ambika Verma (Class 7) of Dagrara, Hariom Singh (Class 12) of Darra, Sangipur, Abhimanyu Tiwari (Class 9) of Oripur Naugir, Ayush Pratap Singh (Class 9) of Samaspur Darra, and Annu Jaiswal (Class 12) of Godwa. All the injured students were taken to Lalganj Trauma Center, where Hariom Singh was referred to the district medical college due to serious injuries. The remaining students were discharged after first aid.
After the accident, the tanker driver abandoned the vehicle and fled from the spot. On receiving information, the police reached the scene and took both the bus and the oil tanker into custody. Further investigation is underway, said Alok Kumar, SHO of Lalganj police station.
In two separate incidents reported in Prayagraj city, a woman teacher and another resident were cheated of a total of Rs.1.90 lakh through cyber fraud. Following complaints from the victims, the Dhumanganj police have registered cases and started an investigation.
Shalini Mishra, a resident of Nyaya Vihar Colony, Sulem Sarai, works as an assistant teacher at Allahabad Intermediate College. According to her complaint, an amount of Rs.99,934 was fraudulently transferred online in four transactions from her salary account without her knowledge, in the name of "Router Sports." After receiving alert messages from the bank on her mobile phone, she immediately contacted the Indian Bank's toll-free number and got her account put on hold. She later lodged an FIR at the Dhumanganj police station regarding the cyber fraud.
In another case, Ramakant Tiwari, a resident of Sainik Colony, Sulem Sarai, was duped of Rs.90,000 on the pretext of arranging a marriage alliance. As per the FIR, Ramakant contacted a person named Shankar Kata after seeing a matrimonial advertisement published in a newspaper. The accused allegedly deceived him and withdrew Rs.40,000 from Ramakant Tiwari's bank account and Rs.50,000 from the bank account of his father, Ashok Tiwari. Investigations are underway in both cases after registering cases under relevant sections, police said.
Two cattle smugglers were arrested following an encounter with the police near Sikraur Sahbari under Saraimeer police station area of Azamgarh on Tuesday. The accused have been identified as Rafiq alias Tony and Rahul Yadav, both residents of Azamgarh, said police.
During questioning, they disclosed the names of Salman and Mannan, also residents of Azamgarh, they added.
Police said that a police team led by inspector Bhuvnesh Chaubey, in-charge of the Saraimeer Police station in Azamgarh, was conducting night patrols when they received information that cattle smugglers involved in a previous cow slaughter incident in Demri Makdumpur village were again transporting cattle in a mini truck with the intention of slaughtering them.
Acting swiftly, the police team set up a cordon. When an attempt was made to stop the suspicious pickup truck near Sikraur Sahbari, the occupants spotted the police, broke through the barricade, and fled at high speed.
The police surrounded the criminals, who, upon realising they were cornered, abandoned the pickup truck and fled while opening fire on the police party with the intent to kill, the police said.
The police repeatedly warned them to surrender, but the criminals again attempted to open fire. Acting in self-defense, the police retaliated, injuring two criminals in the leg by gunfire, while two others escaped by taking advantage of the darkness and the terrain.
The injured were sent to CHC Phulpur for treatment, said superintendent of police, Azamgarh rural area, Chirag Jain. He added that police teams have been formed and raids are being conducted to arrest those who are on the run....
