PRAYAGRAJ, Dec. 5 -- In a major push to ramp up preparations for the biggest annual religious fair of the state, Magh Mela-2026, senior officials from the district and the railway administrations carried out a joint inspection of major railway stations including Prayagraj Junction, Prayag, Prayagraj Rambagh and Jhunsi on Thursday. The 44-day Magh Mela will be held from Paush Purnima (January 3, 2026) to Mahashivratri (February 15, 2026). It is expected to draw 12-15 crore pilgrims, with a daily footfall of 20-25 lakh visitors. The inspection team included divisional commissioner Soumya Agarwal, divisional railway manager (Prayagraj division) Rajneesh Agarwal, district magistrate Manish Kumar Verma, additional police commissioner Ajay Pal Sharma, additional divisional railway manager (general) Deepak Kumar, and officials from various departments. During the review, officials discussed a comprehensive plan to ensure smooth movement of pilgrims during the Mela period. Strengthening crowd management, security arrangements, and guidance systems emerged as top priorities.
