Lucknow, May 29 -- To ensure smooth traffic flow, public work department (PWD) officials have been directed to remove a roadside temple and a madrasa obstructing the ongoing four-lane road construction in Arjunganj. The structures, built on the main carriageway and service lane respectively, will be cleared with the support of the local administration and Municipal Corporation to prevent public inconvenience, said the divisional commissioner Roshan Jacob. During a review meeting with officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), PWD and the Uttar Pradesh bridge corporation, Jacob emphasised the need to expedite key infrastructure projects across the division. The PWD chief engineer informed that 88 road safety projects have been included in a proposal sent to the government for approval. Jacob instructed officials to prioritise utility roadworks and include them in the action plan from both administrative and technical standpoints. In reviewing pending PWD projects for 2025-26, it was noted that construction, widening and strengthening of 148 roads spanning 505.83 km across the central region have been targeted. Of these, 42 roads have been completed, while work is ongoing on the remaining 106. Regarding maintenance and repairs, a total of 344.39 km of roads across 95 projects have been targeted. Seventy roads have been completed so far, with work underway on 25. In Lucknow district specifically, 12 new roads are targeted for the year, with only 3 completed so far. The commissioner also reviewed progress on projects by the UP Bridge Corporation. Officials reported that 33 works are currently under construction across the division, including 11 in Lucknow.
